Turkish hazelnuts will be introduced in 15 countries to find a new market

Turkish hazelnuts will be promoted in 15 countries among the target markets within the framework of the Support for the Development of International Competitiveness (UR-GE) project prepared by the Giresun Commodity Exchange.

Hamza Boluk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Stock Exchange, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that Turkiye is the most important hazelnut producer and exporter in the world.

Emphasizing that this position of the country should be preserved and further developed, Boluk stated that as the stock market, they carry out various studies in this context.

Boluk stated that the UR-GE project they prepared to increase Turkiye’s hazelnut export was supported by the Ministry of Commerce.

Pointing to the importance of finding a new market for hazelnuts, Boluk said, “Everyone who trades hazelnuts thinks about, ‘Where and how can we use hazelnut more?’ We are also working in this direction, we are chasing new markets.”

Noting that with the project they prepared, they aimed to identify the countries where hazelnuts are sold the least and have the potential to be sold, and said, “China is an important market and the amount of exports is increasing every year. India is also a serious market in terms of its population. We will contact hazelnut and chocolate industry companies in countries such as Mexico, Brazil and Russia where our exports may increase. We will go there and tell about the hazelnut and introduce it.”

“We are planning projects to create products with high added value”

Emphasizing that they will carry out various activities in England, France, Australia, Brazil, USA, Canada, China, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Mexico, Japan, China, India and Russia to promote Turkish hazelnuts, Boluk said:

“We are especially planning projects to create products with high added value. While we are chasing new markets, there is something else we need to do. ‘Can we take the hazelnut out of the chocolate industry where it is stuck and use it in other sectors?’ We also need to think about this. We do not provide the use of hazelnuts in new sectors. We are also working in this direction.”

Boluk added that they will carry out joint projects, especially research, with Giresun University, which specializes in hazelnuts.
