Average expenditure per tourist in Turkiye increased to $1200

It has been reported that Turkiye’s average expenditure per tourist, which has largely broken its “cheap country” image in tourism, has increased from $800 to $1200 in the last 5 years.

Turkish tourism was also on the agenda at the “FVW Travel Talk Congress” meetings, which were held for the 25th time this year in Valencia, Spain, and attended by more than 300 sector experts, especially the German tourism industry.

Giving information to the AA correspondent, Huseyin Baraner, Secretary General of the World Sister Cities Tourism Association, said, “Turkiye’s tourism has been following a new path instead of price-oriented competition by coming to the fore in the European markets with its quality and service guarantee in recent years, and it has started to reap the fruits of this.”

“Turkiye has left its cheap country image behind.” Baraner stated that this is clearly seen as the average expenditure per tourist increased from $800 to $1200 in the last 5 years.

Baraner said, “With the increase in sales of Anatolian cultural tours and the new momentum in health tourism, the target of 100 million tourists and $120 billion of tourism income will be achieved by 2030 at the latest. In this meeting in Valencia, it was seen that Turkiye is now challenging its competitors in Europe not with price, but with quality and high service, and has reached and supported an unexpected customer volume in this regard.”

Emphasizing that Turkish tourism has become a playmaker in the sales of tour operators and travel agencies in Europe, Baraner stated that Turkiye has started to reap the fruits of the changes in tourism policies, and according to industry experts, a significant increase is expected in Turkiye in the 2024 season.

Adnan Eken, marketing manager of the tour operator Schauinsland, said that they brought 300 thousand high-class German tourists to Turkiye this year and that they foresee a 15-20% increase in 2024 compared to this year.

In his speech at the congress, Soren Hartman, President of the German Tourism Industry Association, noted that prioritizing cultural tourism in Turkiye’s tourism policies provides great benefits, and that, combined with high quality, it becomes more attractive for wealthy tourists.
