39 thousand electric cars were sold in Turkiye in 9 months

Electric car sales in Turkiye increased by 862.8% in the 9 months of this year compared to the same period last year, reaching 39 thousand 51 units.

According to the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD) data, Turkiye’s total sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles increased by 64.8% in the January-September 2023 period compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 857 thousand 575 units.

In the said period, automobile sales increased by 67% to 666 thousand 890 units, and light commercial vehicle sales increased by 57.2% to 190 thousand 685 units.

Gasoline cars maintain the leadership

In the Turkish automobile market, in the first 9 months of this year, gasoline cars ranked first with sales of 448 thousand 152 units, and diesel cars ranked second with 102 thousand 184 units.

Hybrid car sales were 70 thousand 72, and autogas car sales were 7 thousand 431 units.

Electric car sales continued to remain well above autogas car sales with 39 thousand 51 units.

4 thousand 56 electric cars were sold in the January-September period of last year.

862.8% increase in electric car sales

Gasoline car sales increased by 60.6%, diesel car sales increased by 49.1% and autogas car sales increased by 9.8% in the 9 months of this year compared to the same period of 2022.

During this period, hybrid car sales increased by 71.4% and electric car sales increased by 862.8%.

The share of electric continues to rise

The share of gasoline cars in sales, which was 69.9% in January-September 2022, decreased to 67.2% in the same period this year.

During the said period, the share of diesel cars decreased from 17.2% to 15.3% and the share of autogas cars decreased from 1.7% to 1.1%.

While the share of electric cars in total sales in Turkiye increased from 1% to 5.9%, the share of hybrid cars increased from 10.2% to 10.5%.

Considering electric and hybrid, 16.4% of the total market consisted of vehicles with electrification.

On the other hand, many brands continue to offer their previously announced ambitious models for sale in the Turkish market during the year.
