82% of the air cargo load in Turkiye was transferred from Istanbul

In the first quarter of the year, 82% of the air cargo load in Turkiye was transferred from Istanbul.

Fast and easy air cargo transportation has become even more important in the COVID-19 period, when all kinds of transportation are disrupted around the world. With the air traffic intensifying since the beginning of 2022 with the reduction of the measures, the increase in the amount of baggage, cargo and postal cargo carried from Istanbul, one of the world’s important aviation centers, and the increase in commercial flights continued this year as well.

The total load transported from the airports in Istanbul is 683 thousand 873 tons

The total amount of cargo carried by flights from all airports in Istanbul in the 3 months of the year was 683 thousand 873 tons, 79 thousand 245 tons on the domestic line and 604 thousand 628 on the international line.

The amount of transported cargo increased by 62 thousand 820 tons

In the same period of last year, 621 thousand 53 tons of cargo was carried, and the amount of cargo transported this year increased by 62 thousand 820 tons in Istanbul-based flights. Compared to the same period of the previous year, there was a 10% increase in the amount of cargo transported from the three airports.

In the first quarter of the year, the amount of baggage, cargo and mail carried by flights to and from all airports in Turkiye was determined as 833 thousand 949 tons. During this period, 82% of the air load in Turkiye was transported from the airports in Istanbul.

Commercial flights from Istanbul increased by 27.5%

The increases in all branches of the aviation industry, which started last year and continued this year, continued in commercial flights as well.

While a total of 111 thousand 17 commercial flights were carried out from Istanbul Airport to domestic and international lines in the January-March period, this number was 80 thousand 816 in the same period of last year. Commercial flights at the airport increased by 37% in the same period this year.

From Sabiha Gokcen International Airport, which made 43,252 commercial flights in the first quarter last year, a total of 49,12 domestic and international flights took place in the same period this year. The increase in commercial flights at the airport was 13%.

At Ataturk Airport, which made 1404 commercial flights in the same period last year, there were no commercial flights this year.

In the first quarter of this year, a total of 160 thousand 29 commercial flights were organized from Sabiha Gokcen and Istanbul airports.

While commercial flights in Istanbul, which made 125 thousand 472 commercial flights in the same period of last year, increased by 34 thousand 557 this year, commercial flights based in Istanbul airports in the 3 months of the year increased by 27.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.
