Ambassador Ertas stated that Turkiye is rapidly progressing towards becoming an “energy trade center”

Turkiye’s Ambassador to London Osman Koray Ertas stated that Turkiye plays a “critical role” in delivering hydrocarbon resources in the Caspian and Middle East to European and global markets, thanks to large investments in the field of energy.

The Caspian Energy Security Conference was organized by the think tank “Caspian Policy Center” in London, the capital of England. In addition to Turkiye’s Ambassador to London Osman Koray Ertas, many parliamentarians, diplomats, experts and business people from the UK and relevant countries in the region attended the conference.

In his speech here, Ambassador Ertas explained the increasing strategic importance of the Caspian Basin in the fields of energy security and connectivity and the steps taken by Turkiye to become an energy trade center (hub) in the region.

Ertas used the following statements in his speech:

“Thanks to major investments in the field of energy, Turkiye plays a critical role in delivering hydrocarbon resources in the Caspian and the Middle East to European and global markets. Thanks to increasing natural gas storage capacity, diversification of resources, development of LNG infrastructure, steps taken in the natural gas market and natural gas discovered in the Black Sea, Turkiye is rapidly moving towards becoming an important energy trade center in the region.”

“Recent agreements have reinforced Turkiye’s contributions to European energy security”

Ambassador Ertas pointed out that the recent energy agreements with Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary reinforced Turkiye’s contributions to European energy security.

Noting that the region is also in a strategic position in terms of connectivity, Ertas pointed out that the latest developments in Ukraine and the Middle East confirm the importance of the Central Corridor. Ambassador Ertas stated that important steps have been taken within the Organization of Turkish States (TDT) to strengthen connectivity in the region.

Diplomats and experts attending the conference also made evaluations about the importance of the Caspian region, especially in terms of global energy security. Officials from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Georgia underlined the importance of financing opportunities in realizing the great potential in the region.
