BMD: There has been a leap in e-commerce

The brands, which went through a troubled period due to pandemic restrictions in the first half of this year, managed to compensate for their losses in the second half. United Brands Association (BMD) President Sinan Oncel said that 2020, marked by the pandemic, was an important leap year in e-commerce, and the same trend continued increasingly in 2021.

Oncel said, “In the 10-month period of this year, online card sales reached ₺348 billion with an increase of 70% compared to the previous year. In other words, 24.5% of card expenditures were made online in the said period. As BMD, we take the pulse of our members with monthly surveys. 49% of our members who participated in our November survey declare that the share of e-commerce in the total turnover has reached at least 10%.”

Pointing out that 8% of the turnover of the organized retail sector in Turkey comes from foreign expenditures, Sinan Oncel pointed out that this share has increased with the exchange rate movement.
