Turkey opened first integrated solar panel facility with $400M investment

The first and only integrated solar panel production facility of Turkey and Europe, Middle East started operating with 400 million dollars of investment amount.

President Erdogan participated in the opening of Kalyon Solar Power Technologies Facility in Ankara. The facility is the first in Turkey and only in Europe and Middle East; Kalyon Solar Power Technologies Facility is constructed by Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources within the Renewable Energy Resources Project (YEKA-1 GES) whose tender was in 2016.

The facility will have 500 megawatts of energy production capacity annually and will prevent nearly 100 million dollars of annual import. The indigenousness rate of the produced panels will be over 70 percent.

There will be a R&D centre in order to improve the solar power technologies and 100 researchers will work in there; the facility is among the world’s 20 integrated facilities.

Panels will be used at Konya Karapınar power plant

The panels produced at Kalyon Solar Power Technologies Facility will be used at Konya Karapinar solar power plant which will be built also within the YEKA-1 GES project.

Konya Karapınar solar power plant will have 1 billion dollars of investment amount; the power plant will produce 2.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. 40 megawatts of sections will be put into use every month as from September in Konya Karapinar solar power plant and full capacity production will start by 33 months.

Solar power production share of Turkey will increase by 25 percent and 2 million tons of carbon dioxide emission will be prevented after Konya Karapınar solar power plant is put into use.
