Turkiye’s first battery factory to be built in Bursa

The foundation of Turkiye’s first battery factory will be laid tomorrow in the Gemlik district of Bursa, with a ceremony that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to attend.

According to the written statement made by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the construction start ceremony will be held tomorrow at 14.00 with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the Battery Development and Production Campus of Siro Silk Road Clean Energy Storage Technologies, which was established to develop energy storage solutions in partnership with Turkiye’s global mobility brand Togg and Chinese energy company Farasis.

Critical step for Turkiye

According to the statement, Turkiye is taking important steps to catch up with the change and transformation in the global automotive industry.

After Togg’s T10X model was taken off the mass production line and appeared on the streets, a critical step is taken regarding the battery, one of the most important components of electric vehicles.

Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, whose views are included in the statement, stated that after the mass production of Togg at the production base in Gemlik, investments continue in Bursa and that the foundations of Turkiye’s first battery factory will be laid here.

Engagement of the Century of Turkiye

Stating that the battery factory, which will bring important capabilities to Turkiye, will also provide a significant income in terms of employment for Turkiye and Bursa, Varank said:

“Our Honorable President will visit Bursa and Gemlik on Monday. We will lay the foundation for another very important investment of Turkiye. We will lay the foundations of another sign of the ‘Century of Turkiye’. We will lay the foundations of Turkiye’s first battery factory. This technology will bring important capabilities to Turkiye. It will make a significant contribution to the economy of our country. In terms of employment, it will have an important return for Bursa and Turkiye.”

Value added production

Pointing out that the key to value-added production and value-added development is such investments, Varank said, “We will continue these investments from now on as we have done so far. An important industrial city like Bursa will get its share from these investments. The investments we make here will develop not only this city, but the whole of Turkiye.”

Battery development and manufacturing campus

Siro Battery Development and Production Campus, which will be established on an area of 607 thousand square meters next to Togg’s production base in Gemlik, is planned to be completed by the end of 2024. The latest generation, high energy density battery cells will be produced on the campus where cells, modules and packages will be produced.

With the Siro Battery Development and Production Campus, Turkiye will become an important integrated energy storage center in Europe and the Middle East in this area. Thus, Turkiye will have the competence to develop and produce cells, which is available in only a few countries.

Siro, whose production capacity will reach 20 GWh per year by 2031, will own the intellectual property of all the products and solutions it develops.

Siro will provide fixed energy storage services for industrial applications, marine vessels and renewable energy to neighboring countries as well as Turkiye.
