‘Automotive City Sakarya’ exported 172 thousand vehicles in 11 months

“Automotive City Sakarya” exported 172 thousand 766 vehicles in the January-November period and provided $3 billion 477 million 248 thousand foreign currency inflow to the country’s economy.

Sakarya, which ranks 7th after Istanbul, Bursa, Kocaeli, Izmir, Ankara, and Gaziantep in the export ranking, exported $3 billion 887 million 641 thousand to 150 countries and 10 free zones in the 11-month period.

Sakarya attracts attention with the sectors of automotive, iron and non-ferrous metals, air conditioning industry, chemicals and products, machinery and accessories, and the most exports were made in the automotive sector with $3 billion 477 million 248 thousand.

According to Automotive Industry Association data, in Turkey out of 1 million 181 thousand 360 vehicles produced in the January-November period, including tractors, 834 thousand 301 of them were exported. Sakarya, which has a 20.7% share in this number, exported 172 thousand 766, corresponding to 77% of the 224 thousand 312 vehicles it produced.

670 vehicles rolled off the band in a day

Toyota, Otokar, and TurkTraktor companies operating in Sakarya produced 192 thousand 878 cars, 141 pickup trucks, 451 buses, 775 midibuses, 193 small trucks, 29 thousand 874 tractors in an 11-month period.

In Sakarya, where 18.9% of Turkey’s total vehicle production is done, 516 of 670 vehicles produced per day were exported in the January-November period.

Toyota maintains leadership in both production and exports

Among the companies in the city, Toyota maintained its top position in production and exports, followed by TurkTraktor and Otokar.

When the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreaks happened in Turkey, within the scope of the measures taken by automotive companies in the city with temporary cessation of production in March, Toyota stopped the production. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey started production again on 11th May.

The Toyota factory located in Arifiye district produced 192 thousand 878 passenger-type Corolla, Toyota C-HR, and Corolla Hybrid models in 11 months of the year, and exported 160 thousand 426 vehicles, corresponding to 83.1% of these productions.

TurkTraktor, which produced 29 thousand 874 tractors in 11 months of the year, sold 11 thousand 656 vehicles abroad, corresponding to 39% of its production.

Otokar, one of Turkey’s leading defense industry companies, suspended its production activities on 25 March as part of measures to reduce the effects of the coronavirus epidemic. Otokar, which started production again in May, exported 684 of the 1560 vehicles it produced in the January-November period.
