An ‘Early Warning System’ will be established for food prices changes in Turkey

Considering the developments in international supply and demand and the course of the epidemic, the effects of the measures taken in some food products in recent months on prices were discussed.

In the Food and Agricultural Product Markets Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (Food Committee), processed and unprocessed food price developments in Turkey, as well as the impact of the epidemic process on food prices in 2020, the developments in global agricultural commodity prices, and the expectations for 2021 were evaluated.

According to the written statement made by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, The Committee was hosted by the Minister of Treasury and Finance Lutfi Elvan, with the participation of Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli, Minister of Trade Ruhsar Pekcan, Central Bank President Naci Agbal and Presidency Strategy and Budget President İbrahim Senel.

At the meeting, processed and unprocessed food price developments in Turkey, as well as the impact of the epidemic process on food prices in 2020, issues related to the developments in global agricultural commodity prices and 2021 expectations were evaluated.

Considering the developments in international supply and demand and the course of the epidemic, the effects of the measures taken in some food products in recent months on prices were discussed.

It was decided that the committee will continue data-based studies that will make it easier to predict future production and price developments in the food and non-alcoholic beverages group.

In this context, technical infrastructure studies were presented to the Committee for the establishment of an Early Warning System that will help to make timely decisions on developments in agricultural products and food markets, and the framework for cooperation between institutions was determined.
