EU industrial production up 0.4% in January

Industrial output remains unchanged in euro area month-on-month, goes down 1.3% in annually

Industrial production in the EU increased 0.4% in January versus the previous month, while it remained unchanged in the euro area, according to estimates from Eurostat on Tuesday.

On an annual basis, industrial production in January rose 0.4% in the EU,but declined 1.3% in the euro area, the statistical office said in a statement.

The largest monthly increase in industrial output was registered in Austria with 6.2%, while the biggest monthly decrease was recorded in Estonia with 6.1%.

Annually, the highest gain in industrial production was seen in Lithuania with 24.7%, whereas the largest decline was observed in Ireland with 20%.

On a monthly basis, production of non-durable consumer goods rose 3.1% in January, but production of intermediate goods and energy both fell 0.3% in the euro area.

In the euro area, production of capital goods fell 8.4% in January from the same month of last year, while production of intermediate goods rose 0.6%.
