FreshSens, a smart agriculture startup founded by Baran Baykurt Emiroglu, Vehbi Cagri Gungor and Cem Ayyildiz, develops technologies that extend the storage life of products such as fruits, vegetables, mushrooms and cut flowers, predict shelf life and prevent losses by using artificial intelligence and internet of things technologies.

It changes its stock management philosophy of “first in, first out” to “first to break, first to go”. Smart agriculture startup Freshsens completed its first investment round with an investment of ₺1.7 million from Startup Wise Guys.

According to the data of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), an economic loss of approximately $500 billion is experienced every year as a result of disruptions and wrong operations in the supply chain of fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition, although the contribution of the loss of fresh fruit and vegetables to the world’s greenhouse gas emissions is not fully known, it is thought to take up a large part of the 8% food loss.

Freshsens, which takes advantage of the fact that Turkiye is the world’s largest cherry producer and also one of the largest pomegranate producers, has therefore started its work on cherries and pomegranate fruits and is preparing to offer its services to its customers for products such as asparagus, blueberries and figs in the coming days. Thanks to its technology, Freshsens can also be used for mushrooms and cut flowers, suitable for almost all fresh fruits and vegetables.

Aiming to continue its activities in Europe, the Americas and Asia due to the suitability of its geographical infrastructure, and taking steps in this regard, the initiative considers geographies such as South America, which are experiencing great losses in this area, as its main target market. Founded by Baran Baykut Emiroglu, Vehbi Cagri Gungur and Cem Ayyildiz and continuing its operations with a team of 12 people, Freshsens has been developing its technology since 2019. Having completed its incorporation processes in 2023, the startup manages its operations from Turkiye. Freshsens currently serves many customers from 4 different countries.

Freshsens, which received an investment from Startup Wise Guys, will use this investment in addition to its operational costs, to use it entirely with a focus on marketing and sales, to increase the number of products they serve and to develop their customer portfolio.

Regarding their investment in Freshsens initiative, Startup Wise Guys partner Gunce Onur said: Food and agriculture are now the main topics on everyone’s agenda. This issue, which has become more serious with the war after the pandemic, is now closely related to our country with the sad earthquake disaster we have been experiencing recently. We believe that this solution, developed by Freshsens’ expert team, will find a response in many different markets and will make a big difference in the food field.
