Turkey: The target in lemon export is $300 million

Lemon exports, which were $124 million in the January-September period of last year, increased to $184 million in the same period of this year. Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association Chairman Hayrettin Ucak said, “Many companies abroad have Argentine lemons in their hands right now. They will return to us when they are finished.”

Lemon exports from Turkey, which reached $184 million with an increase of 48% in the 9-month period of the year compared to the same period of the previous year, are expected to reach $300 million at the end of the year.

According to the information compiled by AA correspondent from Aegean Exporters’ Association (EIB) data, $273 million 806 thousand were obtained from lemons exported to more than 60 countries last year.

This year, the increase in yield was also reflected in exports. Lemon exports, which were $124 million 20 thousand in the January-September period of last year, increased by 48% in the 9 months of this year to $184 million 49 thousand.

Russia ranked first in lemon exports with $48 million 316 thousand, followed by Iraq with $43 million 650 thousand and Romania with $18 million 516 thousand.

TARGET IS $300 MILLION

Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association Chairman Hayrettin Ucak told Anadolu Agency (AA) that Turkey’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports increased by 19% in the January-September period compared to the same period of the previous year, and reached $2 billion 16 million.

Indicating that exports will accelerate with the acceleration of the harvest of citrus products, Ucak stated that lemon has an important place among citrus products.

Ucak noted that the harvest of early lemon varieties started in August in the Mediterranean Region, and the harvest of other varieties continued in September and October.

Expressing that this year’s quality and yield are especially pleasing in the Mediterranean Region, Ucak stated that the yield in the Aegean is lower than last year.

Pointing out that the lemon work in the packaging facilities has gained momentum, Ucak said, “Our target in lemon exports at the end of the year is $300 million.”

“WE ARE WAITING FOR ARGENTINA LEMON”

Ucak pointed out that the companies importing lemons from Turkey have been slow this year and said, “The companies that asked us when we will start exporting in the summer months have just started looking for it this year. We researched it. We learned that the Argentine lemons are due to the extension of the season. Many companies abroad have Argentine lemons in their hands right now. When they are finished, they will return to us. With this turn, the increase will accelerate even more.”

Reminding that last year, a pre-authorization requirement was introduced for lemon exports, Ucak said that this was done to protect the consumer, and that such a situation is not yet expected this year.
