AI Digital Tax Assistant will help citizens in Turkey regarding tax issues

Announced within the scope of the Economy Reform Package, the “Digital Tax Assistant” system is planned to serve taxpayers as of September next year.

Within the scope of the calendar of the Economy Reform Package, the “Digital Tax Assistant”, which will be prepared by artificial intelligence, will automatically answer the questions asked by the citizens about tax.

According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent, economic reforms aim to simplify tax regulations, to take steps that increase investor friendliness and predictability. Digital transformation in tax transactions will also be carried out within the scope of the Economy Reform Package.

The “Digital Tax Office of Turkey” application, which can provide 24/7 service to cover all taxpayers, will be implemented as of December 31, 2022. In order to establish the “Turkey Digital Tax Office”, a legal arrangement will be made by the end of this year, and then administrative decisions will be taken next year. With this system, business and transactions related to tax can be done electronically.

A “Digital Tax Assistant” system will be created by making use of technological innovations. The software to be prepared in this context will automatically answer the frequently asked questions of citizens about tax in an electronic environment via artificial intelligence. The system is planned to be implemented by 31 August 2022.

By the end of the year, the Digital Tax Audit System will be developed, and the review periods, including tax refund reviews, will be shortened. With this system, tax audits will be carried out electronically, electronic notification, examination, record, reporting processes will be completed electronically in a very short time.

Standards-based, predictable and control models that prevent unfair competition will be further developed.

Single administration model will be completed by the end of the year

Reform steps such as revising the double taxation agreements, using the “mutual agreement method” with other countries in solving the tax problems of international investors that concern more than one country, and extending the advance pricing agreements on transfer pricing that increase tax predictability for taxpayers and administrations are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

In addition, it will be ensured that debts that are not paid to the public on time by the end of the year will be collected by a single administration.

The Tax Procedure Law will be updated by the end of the year to encourage voluntary compliance.
