$863 million export from the Eastern Black Sea Region in 8 months

Exports from Trabzon, Rize, Artvin and Gumushane were $863 million 237 thousand 686 in the January-August period of 2022.

Saffet Kalyoncu, Chairman of the Board of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKIB), in his written statement stated that in 8 months of the year, $619 million 50 thousand 380 were exported from Trabzon, $157 million 582 thousand 775 from Rize, $46 million 41 thousand 349 from Gumushane and $40 million 563 thousand 183 from Artvin.

Pointing out that Trabzon’s exports decreased by 13% compared to the same period of the previous year, Kalyoncu emphasized that there was an increase of 25% in Rize’s exports, 8% in Gumushane’s exports, and 11% in Artvin’s exports.

Hazelnut exports at the top

Kalyoncu drew attention to the fact that hazelnut is one of the sectors with the highest export volume, with $299 million 46 thousand 309. Accordingly, mining products are in the second place with $136 million 667 thousand 837, in the third place are fresh fruits and vegetables with $133 million 585 thousand 436, in the fourth place with $121 million 277 thousand 89 aquaculture and livestock products, vehicles and sub-industry took the fifth place with $28 million 98 thousand 94.

Most exports were made to Russia

Underlining that exports were made to 132 countries in 8 months of the year from the region, Kalyoncu stated that the 5 countries with the highest exports were Russian Federation, Georgia, Germany, People’s Republic of China and Italy, respectively.

Kalyoncu emphasized that there was a 35% increase in exports to Georgia, while exports to Italy and Germany decreased due to the contraction in demand in the hazelnut sector.

Stating that there was a significant increase in exports to Peru, Vietnam, Denmark, Belarus, Japan, Egypt and Chile, Kalyoncu said that unlike the same period of last year, exports were made to 13 more countries, including Ireland, Slovenia and Zambia.
