Siemens Gamesa established Turkey’s first wind turbine R&D center in Izmir.

According to the statement made by the company, Izmir R&D Center, which is one of the 6 R&D centers of Siemens Gamesa in the world, started its operations with a team of 64 people, by recruiting Turkish engineers working abroad.

While the Izmir R&D Center will help develop the country’s wind energy potential, the technologies developed here will be exported for the company’s global operations.

Ebru Cicekyurt, Senior Manager (CEO) of Siemens Gamesa Turkey, stated that they will continue to work to expand the R&D center and focus on the employment of female engineers in order to strengthen diversity. She added saying:

“Our team takes part in our global R&D projects and works on technologies of the next 3-5 years. As a company, we trust Turkey’s engineering infrastructure. With the first and only local wind turbine R&D Center in Turkey, it is possible to transfer an enormous amount of knowledge to Turkey. Despite a short period of time, we started the patenting process of some technologies developed in our center. Domestic manufacturers receive engineering support from our R&D center and benefit from knowledge and technology transfer. The number of localization projects we have successfully completed since the R&D center was opened has reached 12.”

Lars Bondo Krogsgaard, CEO of Siemens Gamesa Onshore, pointed out that the new R&D center demonstrates the company’s commitment to Turkey and its confidence in the country’s growth potential, he added saying, “We look forward to bringing our latest technologies to the country. I am confident that the skills of this R&D center and its highly experienced Turkish engineers will provide us significant benefits.”
