Minister of ENERGY and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez stated that a record was broken in boron production, exports and sales this year, “We sold a total of 2.6 million tons of boron products, of which 2.5 million tons were exported. We broke a record by achieving a sales figure of over $1 billion from here.” Donmez announced at the Boron Workshop held at the Eti Maden General Directorate that the boron carbide plant will be completed towards the end of 2022 and the first performance tests will be carried out.
FERROBOR FACILITY TO BE ESTABLISHED IN BALIKESIR
Emphasizing that they will increase the added value of the boron with this facility, Donmez said, “We are in the process of signing a contract for a ferrobore production facility with an annual capacity of 800 tons in Balikesir. We will lay the foundation of this facility in 2022,” he said. Pointing out that the preparations for the Rare Earth Elements Recovery Process Design, Pilot and Production Facility in Eskisehir continue, Donmez said that the installation of the pilot facility will begin in the first quarter of 2022. Donmez said that 2022 will be a year when boron ore turns into more end products. “I hope our boron carbide plant will come into operation. We will lay the foundation of our ferro boron facility and our new domestic lithium facilities that will produce at full capacity. Hopefully, we will start the installation of our pilot plant that will produce rare earth elements again this year.” Donmez pointed out that Turkey is the leader of the world boron market.
