A new era in smart agriculture will begin with the “Smart Agriculture Practices Training Centre” cooperation protocol to be signed between the General Directorate of Plant Production of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Gebze Technical University tomorrow.
According to the statement made by the Ministry, joint studies with universities started after the cooperation protocol signed with the Council of Higher Education on January 15.
In this context, a protocol was signed with Gebze Technical University to develop the infrastructure by developing smart agricultural practices and to provide training and extension services for staff, students and farmers through research and development activities.
The campus, where Gebze Technical University and Cayirova Seed Certification Test Directorate of the Ministry are located together, was selected within the scope of the protocol and the operations.
Thousands of young people received applied education in the field of agriculture in the campus, where education started in 1943 as a Technical Gardening School. The university was founded in 1992 and since then has continued to provide Turkey with trained people in different areas.
The campus started training on gardening with the protocol, and then provided training on agriculture and home economy at the secondary and high school level. Campus will be transformed into a centre that provides both education and training using smart farming techniques such as drones, sensors and tissue culture.
The technology will be more involved in agriculture
This study started on “smart agriculture” will be the beginning of the technological and digital transformation in agriculture. The first step of this initiative will be taken with the protocol to be signed tomorrow at the opening of the Gebze Technical University academic year with the participation of the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Bekir Pakdemirli.
