719 cooperatives were established in 5 months in Turkiye

In Turkiye, 719 cooperatives started to operate in various fields from construction to agriculture, from transportation to manufacturing in the January-May period.

According to the data of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkiye (TOBB), while 118 cooperatives were established in May this year, 54 cooperatives ended their activities.

Considering the fields of activity of the cooperatives established in May, those in the construction field took the lead. In the month in question, 66 cooperatives were established in the construction sector. Construction was followed by agriculture, forestry and fisheries with 19 cooperatives, transportation and storage with 8 cooperatives, wholesale and retail trade with 6 cooperatives, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, accommodation and food service activities with 5 cooperatives, finance and insurance activities with 2 cooperatives, manufacturing with 2 cooperatives, real estate activities with 2 cooperatives, other service activities with 2 cooperatives, professional, scientific and technical activities with 1 cooperative, public administration and defense with 2 cooperatives, compulsory social security, education, human health and social service activities, and administrative and support service activities with one cooperative.

Of the 54 cooperatives that were closed in May 33 were involved in construction, 7 in transportation and warehousing, 6 in wholesale and retail trade, and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, 4 were involved in agriculture, forestry and fisheries, 2 in finance and insurance activities, and one in real estate activities and administrative and support service activities.

While 62 cooperatives were established in May last year, the number of those established this year increased by 52.54%.

Most residential building cooperatives started operating in 5 months

Looking at the 5-month period of the year, it was seen that 719 cooperatives were established throughout the country. 276 cooperatives ceased their activities.

Housing sector took the first place among those established in the January-May period with 327 cooperatives. In addition, 156 enterprises, 123 agricultural developments, 36 motor carriers, 19 tourism developments were put into operation. 16 irrigation, 15 production and marketing, 12 services, 7 aquaculture, 2 training, research and development, one small industrial site construction, tradesmen and craftsmen’s surety, marine motor carriers, consumption, site management and consultancy cooperatives became operational.

In the January-May period of last year, 603 cooperative establishments were established. Thus, when 5-month periods are taken into account, the number of cooperatives established increased by 83.86%. While 121 cooperatives were closed in the first 5 months of last year, the number of cooperatives closed in the same period of this year increased by 43.84% to 276.
