Accordingly, in the first quarter of January, February and March, 6 million 955 thousand people residing in the country traveled.
The total number of trips made by travelers with one or more overnight stays within the country increased by 4.4% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and amounted to 8 million 309 thousand trips. Travelers in this quarter made 62 million 36 thousand overnight stays. The average number of overnight stays was 7.5 nights.
TRAVELERS SPENT ₺6 BILLION 78 MILLION 732 THOUSAND
Domestic tourists’ travel expenditures increased by 49.7% in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same quarter of the previous year and amounted to ₺6 billion 78 million 732 thousand.
95.8% of these expenditures were personal expenditures with ₺5 billion 825 million 164 thousand, and 4.2% of them were package tour expenditures with ₺253 million 568 thousand. The average expenditure per trip was ₺732.
When the rate of change in travel expenditures in this quarter compared to the same quarter of the previous year is analyzed, the highest increase was observed in pre-travel expenditures with 362.2%, accommodation expenditures with 136.8% and health expenditures with 119.3%.
TRAVELS MADE WITH THE AIM OF VISITING RELATIVES TOOK THE FIRST PLACE
Travels made with the aim of visiting relatives took the first place with 66.8%. “Travel, entertainment, vacation” took the second place with 15.5%, and “health” with 7.4% took the third place.
TRAVELERS MOST STAY AT THE HOUSES OF FRIENDS OR RELATIVES
Travelers in this quarter mostly stayed at “friends or relatives’ houses” with 50 million 258 thousand overnight stays.
According to accommodation types, “hotel” ranks second with 4 million 56 thousand overnight stays, while “own house” ranks third with 3 million 682 thousand overnight stays.
