$5.8 billion in exports from Technology Development Zones in 21 years

Technology Development Zones was established to increase the competitiveness of the industry by producing technological information in Turkey, adapting small and medium-sized enterprises to new and advanced technologies, accelerating the entry of foreign capital that will make advanced technology investments to the country. A total of $5.8 billion worth of exports were made from Technology Development Zones (TGB) from 2001, when they were established, to April this year.

According to the AA reporter’s compilation from the Ministry of Industry and Technology data, the number of Technology Development Zones established under Law No. 4691 rose to 87 as of April. While 73 of them continue their activities, 14 of them are continuing their infrastructure works.

10 of the TDZs are in Ankara and Istanbul, 5 in Kocaeli, 4 in Izmir, 2 in Konya, Gaziantep, Antalya, Mersin, Hatay, Kayseri, Bursa and Trabzon, and 1 each in Adana, Erzurum, Isparta, Eskisehir-Bilecik, Denizli, Edirne, Elazig, Sivas, Diyarbakir, Tokat, Sakarya, Bolu, Kutahya, Samsun, Malatya, Sanliurfa, Duzce, Canakkale, Kahramanmaras, Tekirdag, Van, Corum, Manisa, Nigde, Burdur, Yozgat, Kirikkale, Balikesir, Karaman, Mugla, Afyonkarahisar-Usak, Aydin, Batman, Osmaniye, Zonguldak, Karabuk, Nevsehir, Cankiri, Kastamonu, Kirklareli, Giresun, Rize and Yalova.

The infrastructure works of 14 TGBs, 2 in Ankara, 1 in Antalya, Batman, Bursa, Cankiri, Giresun, Hatay, Istanbul, Kayseri, Kirklareli, Mersin, Osmaniye and Yalova, are continuing.

The number of companies with foreign and foreign partners in the regions is 322

While 6,560 companies continue their activities in these regions, 322 of them are foreign and foreign partners, 1379 are academic partners.

68,620 personnel work in TGBs. 56 thousand 410 of them are R&D, 958 of them are design, 4 thousand 631 of them are support and 6 thousand 621 of them are out of scope.

40 thousand 305 projects have been completed in these regions, and 10 thousand 998 projects continue. Revenue from sales from the regions was ₺123.4 billion in the period from 2001 to April this year. Total exports of TGBs reached $5.8 billion.

On the other hand, national and international patent registrations in the said regions were 1277, ongoing patent applications 2 thousand 797, utility model registration 428, utility model application 263, industrial design registration 183, industrial design application 121 and the number of copyrighted software was recorded as 522.
