$19 billion of exports from the Turkish automotive industry to EU countries

The automotive industry, which is the locomotive sector of the Turkish economy, made sales of $18 billion 966 million 187 thousand to the European Union (EU) countries. The sector’s exports to EU countries in 2021 increased by 11% compared to 2020. Exports were $4.1 billion to Germany in the first place and $3.3 billion to France in the second place.

According to the information compiled by AA correspondent from the records of Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association and Turkish Exporters’ Assembly, the sector, which made sales to nearly 200 countries, autonomous and free zones last year, achieved an export of $29 billion 342 million 795 thousand with an increase of 15% compared to the previous year.

On a country group basis, EU countries ranked first in Turkey’s automotive exports with a share of 64.6% in 2021.

Last year, $18 billion 966 million 187 thousand were exported to these countries with an increase of 11% compared to 2020. EU countries maintained their position as the most important market in automotive exports.

Foreign sales to the “Other European countries” group, which the United Kingdom is included in after leaving the EU, increased by 32% and reached $3 billion 581 million 195 thousand.

$4.1 BILLION EXPORT TO MAIN MARKET GERMANY

Looking at the countries to which the most exports were made last year, Germany, the main market of the Turkish automotive industry, drew attention as the country to which the most automotive exports were made, with an increase of 17% compared to 2020.

Automotive exports from Turkey to Germany, which was $3 billion 569 million 893 thousand in 2020, increased to $4 billion 167 million 666 thousand in 2021.

France, the second main market, followed Germany with an increase of 14%. In 2020, $2 billion 962 million 942 thousand of automotive exports were made to France, and in 2021, $3 billion 371 million 418 thousand were exported.

In automotive exports, the United Kingdom ranks 3rd with 39% increase and $3 billion 93 million 557 thousand, Italy 4th with 15% increase and $2 billion 448 million 548 thousand, Spain 5th with 15% increase and $1 billion 606 million 540 thousand.

Among the top 10 exporting countries, 7 of them were registered as EU countries.
