The ICCI 2021 Conference, which aims to discuss MAKRO strategies and guide the sector, was held digitally by the energy platform ICCI and the Turkish Cogeneration Association. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez attended the conference as a speaker and Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Committee Chairman Ziya Altunyaldiz, Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) Chairman Mustafa Yilmaz, Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) Chairman Ismail Gulle and Turkish Cogeneration Association Board of Directors President Yavuz Aydin also attended the conference. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez stated that Turkey ranks 12th in the world and 5th in Europe with its current renewable energy installed power, and said, “We believe that we will be a pioneer and model country in solar energy and wind energy as well. As the most important indicator of this belief, we stepped up to the gas in our solar and wind energy investments.” Donmez noted that Turkey’s installed electricity capacity has reached 98 thousand 493 megawatts, and the rate of renewable energy in the total installed power has reached 53%. Noting that Turkey’s wind energy installed power, which was 19 megawatts in 2002, has exceeded 10 thousand megawatts, Donmez said that solar energy capacity has reached 7 thousand 435 megawatts. Emphasizing that he attaches great importance to the efforts to increase renewable energy investments, Donmez called on industrialists to make cogeneration investments in order to reduce costs in facilities that consume intense energy.
ELECTRIC VEHICLE REGULATION
Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) Chairman Mustafa Yilmaz stated that they are working to establish the legal infrastructure and develop the rules of the electric vehicle market. Stating that a more flexible distribution system and system operation approach will be essential in the electricity market, Yilmaz said, “Our basic motto in establishing the regulatory framework we are working on is to adopt an understanding that allows the development of the electric vehicle fleet.”
