Turkiye: Cereals and pulses exports reached $3.8 billion

Turkiye’s overall January-April exports of the cereal industry increased by 7.37% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $3.8 billion.

Istanbul Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (IHBIR) announced the export figures for April and January-April.

Accordingly, IHBIR’s exports in April amounted to $279 million. The exports of the grain industry in Turkiye in April, on the other hand, increased by 6.93% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to $867.8 million.

Thus, Turkiye’s overall January-April exports of the grain industry increased by 7.37% compared to the same period of the previous year and rose to $3.8 billion. IHBIR’s January-April exports, on the other hand, increased by 15% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $1 billion 211 million.

In April, the top three countries to which the grain industry exports the most were Iraq, the USA and Syria, respectively. While exports to Iraq reached $157.9 million with an increase of 13.3% compared to the same month of the previous year, exports to the USA, which ranked second, increased by 62.9% to $73.8 million.

On the other hand, exports to Syria amounted to $36.5 million with a decrease of 18% in April. In terms of commodity groups, the highest export was realized in pastry products with $199.7 million, milling products ranked second with $140.3 million, and vegetable oils ranked third with $133.7 million.

Kazım Tayci, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (IHBIR), whose views are included in the statement, stated that they accelerated the increase in exports with PRODEXPO 2023, which was held for the 30th time in Moscow, the capital of Russia, Gulfood 2023 Food Fair, which opened its doors in Dubai, and lastly, Biscuit, Chocolate and Confectionery Fair ISM 2023, held in Germany.

Pointing out that there is a great interest in Turkish stands at the fairs, Tayci said, “We are a producer country with high quality production and affordable prices. Therefore, there is a great interest in the Turkish pavilions in the fair with many different sectors. As Turkish companies, we add mobility to the fairs.”

Stating that there are serious opportunities especially in the Russian market, Tayci said, “At this point, we are one of the most important gates of Russia to the world. All six sectors under cereals, pulses and oilseeds can easily find a market in Russia.”

Expressing that the sector’s exports performed well in April, as in every month, Tayci underlined that they are in close contact with South America and Far East countries by speeding up their export strategy to distant countries in 2023 in line with the target set by the Ministry of Commerce.

Tayci said, “As IHBIR, we continue to increase our market diversity abroad and on the shelves with each passing day.”

Reiterating that they have set a target of $15 billion for this year, Tayci added that they expect intense participation for the WorldFood Istanbul Fair, which will be held at TUYAP Fair and Congress Center between 6-9 September.
