In the statement made by EBRD, it was stated that Renaud-Basso will pay a 4-day visit to Turkiye on November 20.

In the statement, it was noted that the visit in question would be Renaud-Basso’s first visit to Turkiye after the earthquakes in Turkiye in February. It was stated that within the scope of Renaud-Basso’s visit, a series of meetings are planned to be held with high-level state officials and private sector representatives, representatives of non-governmental organizations and international partners.

In the statement, it was also noted that during the visit, Renaud-Basso is expected to meet with officials from the Presidency, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and the President of the Central Bank of Turkiye (CBRT) Hafize Gaye Erkan.

In the bank statement, it was stated that EBRD President Renaud-Basso is expected to go to the regions affected by the earthquake within the scope of his visit to Turkiye, and that meetings with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Sahin are also planned.

EBRD President Renaud-Basso, whose evaluations were included in the statement, said: “Turkiye is one of our key markets and gateways to trade for many of the countries in which we operate. Therefore, we are absolutely committed to supporting the country’s vibrant private sector and sustainable economic development.”

“I believe that the partnership between the EBRD and Turkiye will provide a greener, more resilient reconstruction in the (earthquake) affected region,” Renaud-Bosso said.

Reminding that the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change will be held next month, Renaud-Bosso said: “I also look forward to discussing how the EBRD can accelerate the decarbonisation of the highest-emitting sectors, which is critical for Turkiye to meet its carbon neutrality commitment by 2053.”

In 2022, EBRD made the highest annual investment among all the countries in which it operates in Turkiye with €1.63 billion.

The bank has invested a total of €19.2 billion in 431 projects in Turkiye since 2009.

More than 90% of these investments were made in private sector projects.
